In this course, students will explore how human societies across the globe organize themselves politically. Through in-depth case studies, we will investigate both the “how” and the “why” of politics, with focus on history and culture, geography and ecology, demographics and economics, institutions and ideology. Students will critically analyze varying political systems’ approaches to common problems as well as learn to read and interpret data, make comparisons and applications, and develop evidence-based arguments.
