How do computers and the internet work — and how do they work on us? This course is a comprehensive exploration of computing and information technology in the contemporary world. Students will investigate key concepts including algorithms, Turing machines, programming and code, the internet, servers and “the cloud,” mobile computing, and social media. Through readings, videos, hands-on projects and lively class discussions, students will engage not just with the technical foundations of the internet, but with its economic, social and political aspects as well. Whether you are a tech enthusiast or simply curious about the digital world, this course will empower you to become an informed citizen, a creative problem-solver, and a driving force in shaping the future. No prior experience is required.
