In this course, students explore the planet Earth, its history, and the physical processes that continue to shape it. Major topics include the Earth’s origins and geologic time, plate tectonics and seismology, the formation of rocks and minerals, volcanism, weathering and erosion, glaciers, deserts, beaches and the ocean floor, rivers, floods and groundwater, and fossils and their relationship to Earth’s past. Students will deepen their understanding and hone their scientific problem-solving through participation in hands-on labs, group projects, virtual field trips, and (where practical) on-site experiences.
