Screenwriting

Everyone should read a screenplay at least once! In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of visual storytelling — through analytical study and the hands-on, creative process of writing for the screen. We will cover topics including screenplay structure and format, setting, character, theme, tone, conflict, dialogue, and subtext. Throughout, students will be encouraged to explore the tools of the filmmaker, using cinematic language to write visually. We will also introduce some practicalities of screenwriting as a profession, including the art of pitching.
